Tarn Taran Honour Killing: 22-Year-Old Man Killed Over Love Marriage, One Accused Held
A 22-year-old man was allegedly killed by his wife’s brothers outside the Tarn Taran bus stand following a dispute over the couple’s marriage. Police have taken one accused into custody, while efforts are underway to arrest the second.
Tarn Taran: A 22-year-old man was allegedly killed in a suspected honour killing outside the Tarn Taran bus stand after reportedly marrying a woman against her family’s wishes.
The deceased has been identified as Jagjit Singh Jeet, a resident of Kadgill village.
According to DSP Jaspal Singh, Jagjit had married a woman from Naurangabad village around a month ago. Police said the woman’s family was opposed to the relationship.
Attack outside Tarn Taran bus stand
The dispute allegedly took a violent turn when Jagjit was intercepted outside the Tarn Taran bus stand.
Police have identified the accused as the woman’s brothers, Jaspreet Singh Jassa and Harpreet Singh Happy. The two allegedly attacked Jagjit with sharp-edged weapons.
Jagjit suffered serious injuries in the attack and died at the spot.
After receiving information about the incident, a City Police team led by SHO Paramjit Singh Virdi reached the scene and took possession of the body as part of the investigation.
Victim's father says family had not shown resentment
Jagjit’s father, Tarsem Singh, told police that his son had married the woman about a month earlier.
According to him, the woman’s family had not openly expressed resentment over the marriage following the wedding. He also said the woman’s mother had visited their house to meet her daughter.
The circumstances surrounding the killing are now being investigated by police.
One accused in custody
Police have registered a case under Sections 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
DSP Jaspal Singh said one of the accused has been taken into custody, while police teams are searching for the other accused.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
